Understanding the Foundation
Wisdom starts with God. We are benefactors of the wisdom of God, and this divine insight serves as a secret weapon to promoting unity in the Body of Christ. Wisdom is a great asset to building a disciple’s heart.
What is godly wisdom? It’s skill, wit, understanding, and prudence working together. Wisdom represents the right use or exercise of knowledge. It’s synonymous with discretion and demonstrates the exercise of sound judgment - either avoiding evils or attempting good.
Biblical Examples of Divine Wisdom:
A.) God in Creation
God created the heavens and the earth with every detail in mind. Nothing was lacking and nothing had to be altered at a later time. Because He is an eternal God, He had the full timeline of everything that would take place in the earth that He created. By His love, He continued His plan with extensive detail ultimately to lead to us seeing this very day. This is the very essence of wisdom.
B.) Solomon’s Heart to Please God
Solomon went to Gibeon to offer God a sacrifice. The Lord appeared to him in a dream and said “Ask what I shall give thee.” Solomon requested an understanding heart - to hear intelligently with attention, obedience, and perception. God granted Solomon wisdom plus riches and honor.
What can we learn? God wants us to operate in wisdom. Pursuing wisdom comes with added benefits. Wisdom must be at the center of every disciple’s heart.
C.) Jesus and Sincerity
Jesus demonstrated wisdom in dealing with Judas, showing impartial love. He selected his betrayer at the same time he selected the other disciples. Judas was treated with love and sincerity in spite of his intentions and ill will. Wisdom reveals that evil acts are attributed to a deeper issue at stake.
Why We Need Godly Wisdom
Godly wisdom provides strategies for life. God hears our desires but determines our destiny. He teaches us from what He knows that we do not know.
1.) Wisdom permits God’s engagement.
He has wisdom stored up for us as His people. His wisdom is endless and is always for our benefit.
2.) Wisdom prohibits the adversary from gaining access to us.
When wisdom enters our hearts, it pushes out wrongful influences. Making sound decisions preserves us.
3.) Wisdom protects us from ourselves.
Our wisdom is limited, but God’s wisdom is based on His omniscience. Our reverence for God allows us to welcome His wisdom.
It promotes unity in the kingdom. We are to always walk in wisdom even when we don’t see it reciprocated. Wisdom must be demonstrated in our speech and naturally flows from us when we value it.
Areas That Benefit from Godly Wisdom
His wisdom affects our walk, our work, our witnessing, and our wealth. These four areas demonstrate how comprehensive divine insight can transform every aspect of our lives. How do we access this transformative wisdom?
Prayer - We must ask God for wisdom with sincere hearts.
Practice - We must live it out in our daily experiences.
Proper spiritual practices - We must maintain our walk with God consistently.
In conclusion, wisdom is skill, wit, understanding, and prudence working together in our lives. There are several reasons why we need godly wisdom, and countless benefits to acquiring it. As disciples, we must pursue this divine insight that promotes unity, provides direction, and protects us from harm. When we operate in godly wisdom, we demonstrate hearts that truly follow Christ and displays hearts filled with love, sincerity, and genuine care for others in the Body of Christ.
